The house of Toumasina's old aunt, Henrietta, seems to have been created for playing hide-and-seek. It is full of spiral staircases, hidden corners and empty rooms, but there is not a single mirror. Henrietta is old and sick, so all her relatives have gathered in the house, expecting to find themselves in her will. While the adults argue over the inheritance, Toumasina spends her days with the small and silent Signe, with the restless Erland and the withdrawn Wilma. One day, Signe finds a mysterious octagonal room full of mirrors, and within it - a hidden world. Why did Henrietta remove all the mirrors from the house? How can we explain the changes in everyone who enters the hidden room? And who is the mysterious girl who is responsible for these changes?
