Alistair Carsington really doesn't want to be as much of a womanizer as he used to be. To escape his worst habits, he went far from civilization: to Derbyshire, and in winter! There, he hoped to accomplish two things in one fell swoop: to escape all his vices and to repay the friend who saved his life at the Battle of Waterloo. But despite these noble intentions, Alistair found himself face to face with Miss Mirabell Aldridge, an unusual older girl who is as headstrong and resourceful as he is. But also perfectly irresistible. Mirabell Aldridge already has her hands full, making sure that her brilliant and incredibly eccentric father doesn't get into trouble. The least she needs is an extremely attractive, overly sensitive and overly intelligent nobleman to remind her that she too has a heart - and a body that he notices is so indecently dressed that he even feels a civic duty to undress it.
