"The Sources of the Vltava" basically belongs to the detective genre, but it develops as a historical-political thriller.
Behind the story of the discovery of the dead girl Tereza Velkova one cold night in Šumava and the investigation into her death, long-hidden truths about war crimes in the Czech-German border region are revealed. The murdered girl is found wearing a striped prison uniform with a Jewish emblem. Stories emerge of underground tunnels, a secret Nazi aircraft parts factory, and a camp that was never recorded anywhere and whose victims have no trace. Old stories influence the lives of new generations living in the area. The spirit of inherited intolerance intensifies the division of the community and allows for a dive into the deep layers of the psychological profiles of the main characters of the story.
The novel has been awarded the "Jirí Marko" honorary award, an award given for the best detective novel in the Czech Republic.
