The village where the last villagers live seems like some mythical place, where time flows cyclically, and the life of the few inhabitants has a repetitive, almost ritualistic dynamic. Forgotten by the world and by their descendants, they no longer wait for anything and anyone, except their own death. The only event that will intrude into that collective waiting is the pursuit of Alekso Gjeshkov, the younger son of Varvara and Teofil Gjeshkov, accused of double murder. The novel "The Last Villagers" was nominated for the prestigious "Balkanika" literary award in 1998.
