Old and rare books

The wealth of a library is measured by the number of the books, but also by the collection of rare editions. The library has a collection of old and rare books from the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th century, significant for science, art and culture. The collection is made up of: old printed books in Macedonian until 1948; old printed books in Latin from the 16th to the 19th century; old printed books in Cyrillic; old printed books in Arabic and Turkish. The collection represents a cultural heritage of particular importance – subcategory of great importance.

The collection contains titles in the Macedonian language. According to the genre, works from the fields of: history, geography, literature, social law, psychology, pedagogy, etc. prevail. The collection is important because it contains the first editions of these works, and it also contains "archive materials" on the history of the Macedonian language, literature and culture.

The collection consists of titles dating from 1566 to 1954 in Latin, Ancient Greek, French, English and German, books with high-quality aesthetic and technical design (ex libris, special binding, specific format, original illustrations, engravings and portraits of famous rulers and monarchs), which have historical and artistic value. The collection contains: dictionaries, collections of poems, essays, fables, travel notes with geographical maps, manuals in the field of natural sciences. The collection is of great importance due to its age and value of the data, as well as the wealth of illuminations.

The collection contains titles in Macedonian, Serbian, Bulgarian and Russian, poetic and prose works, manuals in the fields of history, geography, religion, pedagogy and art.

The collection is made up of titles printed in Arabic and Turkish.
